Is this really news??

I am usually very proud of my industry. It’s full of very fun, hard working and creative people. Last week, in the name of ratings and promotion WTMJ-TV really let me down.
WTMJ decided to do a week-long feature in its newscast about the 20th anniversary of one of the darkest periods in Milwaukee history … the Jeffery Dahmer trial.
I confess, I did not watch one minute of this so-called act of journalism so I cannot comment on the quality of the feature. I just question what public interest was served by digging up this horrible story of a monster who caused so much pain to so many people? We have enough current bad news with record unemployment and a looming government budget meltdown. I don’t think we need to top that with four minutes a night on the antics of a serial killer from 20 years ago.
This was just a another ratings ploy trying to appeal to the dark curiosity in all of us. WTMJ should apologize to the families of the victims and all the others who have had a difficult time putting these tragic events behind them.

Getting press may have to come from more original ideas like tying into a cause-related [...]

By Amy Bauman Sunday’s run was the inaugural year of the Summerfest Rock ‘n Sole Half Marathon and 10K Run in Milwaukee. It was promoted as a top-notch run with plenty of fluids on the course, a great medal, and free entry into Summerfest. Unfortunately for many, it didn’t turn out to be “top notch.” [...]
